Texas home prices are up about 10 percent from a year ago.
Texas real estate agents are reporting that statewide housing prices “are now the highest median and average home price figures ever seen in Texas real estate.”
During the second quarter, statewide median prices were up almost 10 percent to $177,300.
“The first half of the summer selling season has been very busy for Texas real estate,” Shad Bogany, chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors, said Thursday in a statement. “Demand for homes steadily increased throughout the state, which has prompted competition for properties and is boosting prices.”
In the quarter ended June 30, 79,760 single-family homes sold in Texas – were up 17.78 percent from same quarter of last year.
It was the most Texas homes purchased in a single quarter since the Texas Association of Realtors began tracking such sales for its report.
In North Texas, median sales prices of preowned single-family homes reached $185,820 in June – a new record high.
And on Tuesday the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller Home Price Index reported that Dallas-area home prices in May had surpassed prerecession levels for the first time in the closely watched report. Case-Shiller says Dallas-area prices are now up about 1 percent from where they were at the peak of the market in June 2007.
